Recommendations
Any company knows that word of mouth is the best way to grow. Reason being is that people trust their friends. They trust their coworkers. When you see an advertisement on TV or in the newspaper, you never really know what to think. Sure, everything looks professional and tempting, but that’s the point of advertising. If you ask a close friend who they recommend for heating repair, they have no reason to lie to you. It can be a powerful step in finding a great technician, because you already know they’ve done quality work in the past.
Make Some Calls
You can’t get a good feel for a heating repair company until you give them a call. Treat your initial calls as fact-finding missions and nothing more. If the person on the other end of the line starts pressuring you into this service or that, just let it roll off your back. You’re not aiming to hire anyone this second. Call at least three companies and see what they say about your problem. They may not be able to provide you with a price quote without seeing the problem first hand, but you can learn a lot just by talking to someone on the phone. Many service companies act as though they’re too busy for customers. That’s fine. You’ll know to go elsewhere.
Emergency Services
Sometimes you can’t afford to wait a week or so for the heating repair guy to show up. That might work in the fall, but it won’t work in the dead of winter when you are going to bed in layered clothing, a coat, and three blankets. If you need the work done right away, make sure the companies you call understand that. You’re likely to pay a higher price for that kind of work, but the difference shouldn’t be ridiculous. Of course, this is a benefit of becoming a regular maintenance customer; you’ll usually get a discount when an emergency comes up.
